The much-anticipated Google I/O event is happening in a couple of days, with tech-savvy developers and general users awaiting news about several items. The new Nexus 7 is expected to be unveiled, but there's much slimmer hope for the Android 5 Key Lime Pie. Could the rumoured Motorola X phone make it on D-Day?

Should the Motorola X be released, it will not be a real shocker. Rumours have been swirling for months about Google's first ever homebred smartphone. But there are other reports indicating the first Motorola phone will actually be the Nexus 5, too.

As the Nexus 7 was unveiled in last year's Google I/O event, a Nexus 7 refresh is expected during the event, from May 15 to 17 at Moscone Center in San Francisco. The upgrade will reportedly be called Nexus 7 HD, in reference to improved screen display matched to a more robust system.

Instead of Android 5 Key Lime Pie, scoop writers sound certain Google will announce Android 4.3 Jelly Bean will be announced. In connection to that, there will be no Nexus 5 unveiling, because it is the smartphone that will come with the next major Android iteration.

The Google Babel platform will also be showcased in the event, with analysts saying the social media universe is about to get better. Google Hangouts will reportedly be bringing IMs together for greater user convenience.

More details related to the Google Glass will also be announced, as well as winners of the company's #ifihadglass contest. Are there be third-party Glass apps on the horizon?

Google Maps has recently been redesigned, but the extent of revamp is still pretty vague. More information about the globally useful software is expected at the event, too.

Android Police recently reported about Google Play Services v3.1.36, an update for Google apps on Android smartphones and tablets. This implies an improved gaming experience for Android device users. Changes are expected on in-game chat, invitations, and other gaming-related activities.
