A Google I/O Nexus 7 (HD) announcement is one of the most highly anticipated development at the annual Android event. When the device was a no-show, Nexus tab enthusiasts refuse to give up hope.

A promo video for Google Hangouts is getting a lot of attention for what seems to be a clip featuring the new Nexus 7. It could be wishful thinking, though. Rumours of Google I/O Nexus 7 made its rounds on the internet monts before the event. Ubergizmo.com speculated, "(I)f you were to believe the video released by Google [on May 16], a successor to the current-gen is indeed in the works, or at least exists as a prototype."

But droid-life.com is rather skeptical. Writer Kellex pointed out, "(The Google Hangouts video) is filled with minor issues like the male lead using his Nexus 4 upside down and having Advanced Task Killer installed on his device. His N4 is also running what appears to be Ice Cream Sandwich, since it has the old camera icon and stock Android browser instead of Chrome."

Still, there are persistent rumours that a new Nexus 7 release will happen around July this year. Digitimes reported the new 7-in Nexus tablet will sport a screen by Japan Display. The expected resolution is a Full HD 1920×1200. A new Qualcomm processor will reportedly power the device.

As for the price, the new Nexus 7 will reportedly be sold for the original price of the first N7, around US$199. This early, newbie tablet shoppers are awaiting a huge price drop for the existing N7.
