Google Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat are both expected to dance this October 2013 in commemoration of Android's birthday. Nexus 5 is speculated to bring back LG in Nexus making, while Android 4.4 KitKat revealed its partnership with Nestle recently. So what should we expect from the next-gen Nexus running the Android KitKat OS?

1. Operating System

Android 4.4 KitKat is the newest OS probably running the next-generation Nexus 5 which include a variety of changes. Android 4.4 is rumoured to feature a new Linux kernel that brings three very interesting things:

- NVIDIA Tegra and Samsung Exynos chipsets support

- Flash-Friendly File-System support

- Low memory footprint

In addition, Android 4.4 KitKat will offer all-new specifications for the Nexus 5.

2. Screen Display and Bezel

Consistent with its name, Nexus 5, the upcoming smartphone from Google will feature at least 5 inches of screen display, but the Android 4.4 KitKat may improve the bezel factor.

"Edge to edge display - Provides maximum user enjoyment for both work and play," described the promotional Website of the chocolate brand KitKat from which the new OS version was named after. If this was anything to go by, it seemed to suggest an edge-to-edge display on the upcomning Nexus devices.

Nexus 5 may have thin screen bezel for maximum display usage and to match current screen displays found on high-end smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S4.

3. Form Factor

LG Nexus 4 has a weight of 139 g with dimensions of 133.9 x 68.7 x 9.1 mm and 4.7 inches of screen display. Google is surely planning to improve the overall form factor and design of Nexus 5 to give users a brand new lightweight and comfortable feeling - which makes the device launching really exciting. Android 4.4's thin bezel and lightweight memory can make Nexus 5 a top-of-the-line smartphone.

4. Manufacturer

LG is under the spotlight if we are talking about Nexus 5, especially with their history on the last Nexus 4. Sadly, both Google and LG did not confirm rumours on Nexus 5 creation, but it is certain that the Korean company is interested if chosen to make it. In case LG is declared as its maker, we can now expect a thin design, virtually no hard button and end-to-end display just like the G2.

5. Network and Connectivity

PhonesReview spotted the network and wireless connectivity speculated on the next-generation Nexus 5. According to the image in their Web site, the upcoming smartphone will have wireless connectivity such as:

- GSM/WCDMA/CDMA/LTE

- Wi-Fi 2.4 / 5 GHz

- Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy

Nexus 5 is expected to be compatible with U.S. network carriers T-Mobile and AT&T 3G networks. However, the smartphone may not be compatible with Verizon's LTE frequency. But Verizon customers shouldn't judge it quickly as the there are only 5,000 sites that feature this type of connection.

6. Nexus 5 Features

Nexus 5 will run pure Android UI and Google services which means there are no TouchWiz, Xperia UI or anything similar. Since Android 4.4 KitKat is rumoured to run the phone, new features will be included just like what happened on Nexus 4. Here are some things Nexus 5 should at least boast once released:

- New camera application

- Integrated Google services

- Fast software updates due to Nexus priority

- Access to Google Play Game Centre

- All new user interface

7. Android 4.4 KitKat

Of course, the KitKat version of Android is going to add new things as well to Nexus 5. It may include any or all of the following:

- Renewed CPU core support

- Better network coverage

- Newly adjusted screen orientation

- Exclusive Android Cloud Storage

- More accessories compatible

- Improved battery life

- Light on the memory

8. Android Jelly Bean Features

Nexus 5 may still have some Jelly Bean goodies such as Google Now, Project Butter, Lock Screen Widgets, Actionable Notifications, Quick Settings and Daydream. Google may remove or replace some of these features for better system performance on Android 4.4 KitKat.

9. Technical Specifications

Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 will probably have close technical specifications, except for the new hardware components and upgrades on the next-generation. According to the details from PCAdvisor, Nexus 5 is speculated to have:

- Android 4.4 KitKat OS

- 5.0 inches at least of screen display

- 131.9 mm in height and 68.2 mm wide

- 1.9 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 800 Processor

- Adreno 330 graphics chipset

- 13 MP rear camera

- 16 GB and 32 GB models

10. Pricing

As usual, price is the ultimate question above all else. Consumers shouldn't be scared quickly just because Nexus 5 features high-end technology. It is likely that Google will launch Nexus 5 at relatively the same price range as the Nexus 4.
