Google has officially released the major update to the Nexus 4 - the Google Nexus 5. This much-anticipated smartphone is finally made official by Google yesterday and it is now on sale in Australia thru Google Play. The flagship smartphone of Google's most significant improvement is the 4G LTE mobile broadband. Moreover, this is the very first device powered by the Android KitKat 4.4 mobile OS.

As of the moment, the Google Nexus 5 is selling on Google Play at a price of $399 for the 16GB model and $449 for the 32GB model. On the other hand, the US price is at US$349 which is relatively equal to the Australian price once converted. You can have the newest device from Google in two colours as it is available in colour black or white.

According to Google, the smartphone will ship in 1-2 business days from South-East Asia and the shipping fee costs an additional $19.95. Reports say that the first batch of 32GB of Nexus 5 has already been sold out.

For quite some time, the Google Nexus 4 has been a rare find because of its extremely low price relative to its competitors. The budget price tag lured several smartphone owners to switch to the device. Similar to the Nexus 4, the Google Nexus 5 follows the path of its predecessor as it is also likely to sell fast on the Google Play.

Optimistically, Google will ramp up the production of the Nexus 5 and will put some aside for the Australian market so as to avoid the same frustrating scarcity with the Nexus 4.

Eventually, we can anticipate the coming of Nexus 5 to the retail stores like the Harvey Norman's deal on Nexus 4. In conjunction with Optus, this deal is the only possible way to purchase the Nexus 4 on plan. For now, we have don't know how long we have to wait until the Google Nexus 5 will be available apart from the Google Play Store.

According to LG, the manufacturer of the smartphone for Google, "Further information on the retail launch date, operator partner, pricing and sales channels will follow on completion of local network testing." Furthermore, the spec sheet of the Google Nexus 5 indicates that only the 16GB smartphone will only be available for retailers.

Currently, there is still no telco in Australia that directly offers the Nexus 4 which is likely because of the animosity between the telcos and Google in terms of the budget pricing and Google Play's decision to sell it exclusive and direct.
