Could it be that Google will rollout the Nexus 5 ahead of its rumoured October 2013 release schedule because its supposed doppelganger, the LG G2, will hit retail stores the same day it debuts on August 7?

This is according to BGR News, citing South Korean publication MK News as its source. However, the same report clarified that the G2 will be distributed first in South Korea with the rest of the key markets - U.S., Australia and UK - to follow in the immediate weeks ahead.

The earlier G2 push would likely prod Google and LG to advance the Nexus 5 release, which according to earlier reports will take the smartphone centre-stage on October, likely debuting too with Android 5.0 or Key Lime Pie.

And to further support such whispers, reports have emerged pointing to Nexus 4s and Nexus 7s that are already test-running KLP. These devices, according to CNET, are installed with Android versions bearing the build number KRS36B.

Supposedly, 'K' stands for KLP as previous devices on Jelly Bean bears build numbers that start with the letter 'J'.

While Google and LG are keeping their silence on anything about Nexus 5, Android watchers are mostly assuming that any updates concerning the G2 are directly connected with the Google smartphone flagship. The G2 is seen as the handset model of the fifth Nexus mobile phone.

LG has yet to confirm but it hasn't denied too that it is building the Nexus 4 replacement. The company has indicated earlier that it is open to work with Google on the project, enough for many to conclude that the two working to realise the much-improved Nexus 5.

So far and even before its August 7 unveiling, leaks about the G2 strongly suggest of the following specs:

  • 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080p FHD display
  • 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16/32GB storage
  • 13MP rear camera with image stabilization mixed with a 2MP rear shooter
  • 2540mAh battery
  • Dual stereo speakers on bottom
  • Backside touch controls

Plus the LG device will stand on Jelly Bean 4.2.2.

On its release date, the Nexus 5 is expected to mirror all these killer features but with the stock edition of Key Lime Pie.
