Recent leaked reports along with analyst projections all point to the likelihood of a Google-LG collaboration on the upcoming Nexus 5 handset, which is rumoured for a late October 2013 release date.

However, when these talks started swirling a parallel speculation also erupted at around the same time and many picked up the suggestion, initially made by Taylor Wimberly, that it is Motorola that is tasked by Google to deliver the Nexus 2013 hardware.

Or at least a Motorola build is in the works and it is not a variant of the Moto X.

"Motorola will release a Nexus smartphone in Q4 (that is not the Moto X)," Mr Wimberly posted on his Google+ account back in early August this year.

His bold claims later got some boosts from prolific Android gadget news leaker @evleaks, which stressed in a series of Twitter posts that indeed, the Google-owned mobile phone maker is tinkering with Nexus-like project that will lead to the global rollout of an upscale smartphone.

Such declaration, according to Gotta Be Mobile, lends solid foundation to Mr Wimberly's position that a Nexus phone coming from Motorola is very different from the Moto X.

As it turned out, the Moto X, formerly known as the Motorola X-Phone, proved a mid-range device on release date - its specs very remote from the detailed leaks that were attributed to the Nexus 5.

And that another point for the joint assertions voiced out, with supreme confidence, by Mr Wimberly and @evleaks.

While at the moment there is no iota of evidence that backs the existence (or a blueprint at least) of a Motorola-bred Nexus 5, GBM concedes that such discourse, especially coming from two credible sources, cannot be outrightly dismissed.

Together, Mr Wimberly and @evleaks dished out numerous scoops this year that provided clear glimpses of top-notch Android handsets. For instance, the former let out the pieces that formed the Moto X while the latter unleashed the early details of what eventually materialised as the HTC One.

The duo's integrity, so to speak, is beyond reproach.

In any case, will a Motorola Nexus 5 mirror the specs that in the past months have been attached with the device that is believed to be modelled after the LG G2?

The gadget, reportedly, will boast of the following: a 5-inch IPS LCD screen with 1080p resolution, a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip, 3GB of RAM, 13MP rear camera, a 2700mAh battery and KitKat or Android 4.4.

Also, and as asserted by Mr Wimberly, do we get to see a simultaneous release date for the LG Nexus 5 and Motorola Nexus 5, which is a schedule that should fall between late October and early November 2013?
