Rumours swirled this week suggesting that LG's Optimus G2 and Google's Nexus 5 will share the same look and specs on release date, including an incredibly thin display panel recently outed by the South Korean firm.

LG dubbed its latest creation as the "world's slimmest Full HD LCD," the main features of which would lead to the production of wider screen mobile phones with increasingly thinner and lighter profile.

The less-bezel attributes of such mobile display technology will likely be seen first via the Optimus G2 that reportedly is set for an August 7 release date, to be followed by the Nexus 5 come October or November, also in the same year.

Handsets with the super thin HD display component will show off 'grip-ability' never seen before plus a very lightweight build, LG said in a statement.

Both the Optimus G2 and Nexus 5 are 1080p devices, which fit in with LG's purported 1920 x 1080 resolution for the cutting-edge display panel that is geared for mass production anytime this year.

LG's new pride adds up to the earlier talks that it will assemble the fifth-generation Nexus smartphone following the mild success it garnered thanks to the instant hit Nexus 4 in late 2012.

The two devices, reports said, will share superb specs that will be headlined by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processing chip, 3GB of RAM and a main cam shooter at 16MP.

Yet the most exciting Nexus 5 prospect was dropped late this week, with the immediate likelihood that LG's screen technology would allow the stock Android phone to beat out high-end gadgets like the Galaxy S4 and HTC One, in terms of screen brightness.

On release date, the Nexus 5 will stand on Android 5.0 or Key Lime Pie while the LG Optimus G2 will be stuck for a few more months with Jelly Bean 4.2.2 before upgrading to either Jelly Bean 4.3 or KLP later this year.
