The Google Nexus 6 release date this 2014 remains a strong possibility as fresh reports emerge that appear to suggest of two likely killer features for the 'upcoming' native Android smartphone.

As the notion gain traction that the Android Silver project by Google will soon bump off the Nexus line of devices, a report from Australian tech blog site AusDroid seemed to rekindled hopes that prior to the brand retirement on 2015, the Nexus 6 will come out later this year.

Phablet-size Nexus phone

If true, the Nexus 5 sequel will serve as the last hurrah for lovers of pure Android mobile phone and according to AusDroid, the brand will exit big - by serving the Nexus 6 in a full-pledged phablet package at 5.5-inch screen profile.

The same report, however, withheld further details but a hulking Nexus smartphone is not entirely impossible - that is if the device will be patterned after the LG G3. Recall that LG of South Korea has assembled the Nexus 4 and 5 and they were modelled after the company's hero phones.

In 2012, LG rolled out the Optimus G and soon after the Nexus 4 came out with built and specifications that resemble that of the former. It was the same way with the Nexus 5, which was a twin of the LG G2 in 2013.

There is no assurance, however, that the same approach applies for 2014 - that LG will again take charge of the Nexus 6 manufacturing duties. Last week, a senior LG executive revealed that his firm is not part of the undertaking if ever there is one.

But if the storyline is revised in the weeks ahead, which is not a remote scenario at all, then a G3-based Nexus 6 makes perfect sense with the 5-inch screen profile surely a welcome treat for Android fans.

Anti-theft feature

And in the event that the Nexus 6 will indeed make a landfall in the coming months then it will draw its power from Android 4.5 or 5.0 that likely will be unveiled this week via the Google I/O Developers Conference in San Francisco, California.

One of the more notable features packed with the Google mobile operating system is a theft deterrent measure. The next Android version, according to Bloomberg, will have a built-in kill switch to render the devices running on Android useless.

With little or no prospect of reselling stolen Android smartphones, the feature is hoped to discourage or completely eliminate incidences of cell phone theft.

"We're hopeful that technology can help to further reduce incentives for criminals to steal smartphones in the first place," Google was reported by Bloomberg as saying, adding that the tech giant has confirmed the inclusion of kill switch on the next Android version.

So in case Google pushes through with its Nexus 6 release date plans, which likely will be on September or October 2014, it will boast of generous 5.5-inch screen plus the comforting notion that robbers will keep away from the device.
