Two killer features, apart from the upcoming Android L, that likely will arrive with the Google Nexus 6 on its release date is a 2K display panel and affordable sticker price, according to new reports coming from Asia.

DigiTimes of Taiwan, pointing to supply chain sources in the region, is claiming that smartphones with at least 2560 x 1440 screen pixels will be widely available in the last six months of the year.

"More vendors are expected to launch 2K-smartphones in the second half of 2014," said the Taiwanese publication, hinting as well that minor and major brands will issue devices bearing the Retina-busting screen.

With the news, gadgets makers like Samsung, HTC and LG easily come to mind. And it is likely too that Google will be part of the big wave of shift from 1080p to 2K for its hero device.

Note that the Nexus 5, assembled by LG, showcased a 1920 x 1080 display resolution when it rolled out in late 2013 and the rumours are persistent that Google will bump up the panel features of its 2014 flagship.

It was indicated too in the same report by DigiTimes that as phone manufacturers begin to upsize on screen and double the display resolution, price war among vendors will further intensify that likely will lead to solid price marks for Android-powered devices.

So the chance is high that the next Nexus smartphone, despite delivering significant component and feature upgrades from the last version, will come with a cheaper price tag though the report did not mention the specific numbers.

If true, the claim makes sense as analysts point to increasing saturation of the global smartphone market and the rising threat posed by low-priced Android phones, manufactured by Chinese producers in large quantity, that easily became consumer magnet.

Also, Nexus devices are subsidized by Google to keep the price level accessible for many buyers, which again supports the likelihood of a Nexus 6 that is not much of a cash setback.

With the strong possibility of a giant screen upgrade plus a more solid price, the Nexus 6 becoming real is again firming up following earlier indications that Google has decided to kill the device in favour of the high-end gadgets that the Android Silver project will produce.

But Google has made clear that Android Silver is different from the Nexus 6, the release date of which will likely happen on October or November 2014 though the branding remains a toss between LG and HTC.
