Acer has unveiled its budget-friendly tablet, the Iconia Tab B1-A71, at the 2013 CES event in Las Vegas. With a price tag of under $150, the light tablet could attract first time users, including school children. But is this the right budget tablet for you?

Google Nexus 7 is one of the cheapest quality-driven tablets available in the market today. Released in July 2012, the basic edition of this Asus-manufactured device is around $200. Practical gadget shoppers are not easily swayed by a pocket-friendly price. In the long run, they are willing to pay a little extra for good reasons. Here's a comparison of the two budget-friendly devices in terms of specs and features.

Acer Iconia Tab B1-A71 is designed with a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. Out of the box, it will run on Android 4.1. It has 8 GB and 16 GB storage options, with a microSD card slot for an extra space up to 32GB. For some users, the lack of microSD card slot from the Nexus 7 is not exactly a deal-breaker. But there are also those who have been on the fence about it and have yet to decide. The quad-core CPU and the memory capacity of the Nexus 7 certainly attracted many buyers.

Dimensions and Weight - The Nexus 7 measures 198.5 × 120 × 10.56 mm and weighs 340 g. In contrast, Iconia Tab B1-A71 measures 197.4 x 128.5 x 11.3 mm and weighs 320 g. Heavy e-book users might want to choose the lighter device.

Screen Display - Nexus 7's 7-inch diagonal IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen allows 16:10 widescreen aspect ratio. It displays 1280 × 800 WXGA pixels, with pixel density of 216 ppi. Iconia Tab B1-A71 can hardly compete in this department. It features a TFT capacitive touchscreen with a 170 ppi pixel density.

Camera - Nexus 7 has 1.2 MP front-facing camera, which is better than Iconia Tab B1-A71's 0.3 MP. Both devices have no rear camera.

Battery - Nexus 7 uses 4,200mAh battery. Iconia Tab B1-A71 comes with only 2,710Mah battery. There is a reason to be a little concerned about this difference. But then it's possible that the Iconia Tab is less demanding of battery power. (We will find out soon.)

If you know your priorities in a tablet, you can quickly pick the better gadget for your needs. Which device is more promising for you?
