Google Nexus 8.0 Tablet a Hoax? Marketing Error and Bad Simulated Screenshot Dispel Rumours
Google Nexus 7 2013 is now available in the market which can be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat but Google may have another tablet with 8-inches of display screen and narrower bezel. Is it really coming this Christmas season or simply a hoax made through Photoshop?
Google Nexus 8 2013
It was originally spotted by Britoid on the Verge forums which is an odd-looking tablet pictured in Google's own promotional material for the revamped Android 4.4 KitKat page. The image revealed a woman holding an Android tablet with narrower screen bezel and browsing Google Play Store.
By comparison, the screen bezel appears thinner than those on the Nexus 7 2012 or Nexus 2013 which are both upgradable to Android 4.4 KitKat OS. Thinner bezel and odd-looking description led to the belief of Google's upcoming 8-inch Android tablet.
According to Android Authority, the "Nexus 8" screenshot seems to be a marketing mistake with poor screenshot simulation creating the rumours of an upcoming new Nexus tablet. However, there is no denying that Google may actually be planning to release one due to the threat of Apple's iPad Mini Retina.
Technical Specifications
There are no exact technical specifications of the Nexus 8 and if any details can be surmised, it's just that the device would feature an 8-inch display and Android 4.4 KitKat OS.
No known processor, amount of RAM, graphics processing unit chipset, variant models and even brand maker about the Nexus 8. The Nexus 7 first and second generations were co-created by ASUS, while the Nexus 10 was made by Samsung.
If Google is aiming for an 8-inch tablet, it is likely to put LG on line once again after the South Korean tech company made their own LG G Pad 8.3. For curiosity's sake, here are what the Nexus 8 could feature based on the specs of LG's own tablet:
- 8 inches of screen display with 1,200 x 1,920 resolution
- 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core 600 CPU
- Adreno 320 GPU chip
- 2 GB of RAM
- 5 MP rear camera shooter
- 1.3 MP front-facing camera
- Android 4.4 KitKat
Google can make an 8-inch tablet anytime, but the Nexus line offers both a 7-inch and a 10-inch tablet already and creating an 8 incher would make it look like the company is so desperate to match Apple in every way.
