Google Pixel 2 release date: Google confirms release of new smartphones for Android ‘O’ release
The new Google Pixel 2 will apparently be released sometime this year for the release of the new Android “O.” Reports say that the new Pixel phone will arrive sometime this year but will still come at a premium price. This means that it may be as expensive as the upcoming Apple iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy S8.
Google was able to receive a lot of favourable reviews for the Pixel and Pixel XL brands for their Android 7.0 Nought flagships. However, one can never be sure if the Google Pixel 2 will also have great reviews even though it is set to feature Android O. Rick Osterloh, Google SVP of Hardware, is confident while talking about the upcoming generation of Google’s Pixel flagships that are set to be released this year.
“There is an annual rhythm in the industry. So, you can count on us to follow it,” said Osterloh. “You can count on a successor this year, even if you don’t hear a date from me now.” However, prior releases of Google’s flagships and mobile operating systems could provide indication as to when the Pixel 2 may be released. Prior to the Pixel and Pixel XL, the Nexus 6P and 5X were released on Sept. 29, 2015. It showcased Android L or Lollipop. In 2016, the Pixel and Pixel XL were announced before Oct. 4, but it was released then. Therefore, the Pixel 2 may be released between September and October 2017.
According to recent reports, the upcoming Pixel line may have improved water resistance, camera and processor. However, this is merely a rumour, and there is no indication from Google regarding these claims. On the other hand, Osterloh did say that fans can be sure of a successor.
It is rumoured that Google will have a budget version called “Pixel 2B.” However, Osterloh denies this claim as he said that the Pixel will stay premium. Those who bought the Pixel have a lot of things they would want to improve.
At this point in time, there is no specific information about the Pixel 2. The only thing that Osterloh said in his interview with Android Pit is that the Google Pixel 2 will be released sometime this year and that it will stay premium. However, many fans of the Pixel do say that there are a lot of additions they would like to add to the phone. This includes adding wireless charging, better waterproofing, adding expandable storage and many other things.
