Google Pixel C vs. Sony Xperia Z4 tablet
In September, Google launched Pixel C--a premium tablet powered by the latest Android Marshmallow and a keyboard, thereby giving a head-to-head competition to other tablet-cum-notebook devices.
One of the tablets-cum-notebook devices is Sony Xperia Z4, a perfect competitor for Google Pixel C. Both the devices come with a keyboard thus making you creative on the move. Here is a step-by-step comparison of the two devices to find out which one turns out to be the best.
Design
The Google Pixel C measures 242 x 179 x7mm and comes with an anodized aluminum build while Sony Xperia Z4 tablet has a plastic build and an aluminum frame that measures 254 x 167 x 6.1mm. Google tablet isn’t as wide as Sony Xperia Z4 due to a difference in display size, it still offers a premium Silver-coloured design. Meanwhile, Xperia Z4 is waterproof and is available in black and white color.
Following this year’s bandwagon, Google has used the USB-type C feature for faster charging and data transfer. On the other hand, Sony included the standard Micro-USB for charging the Xperia Z4 Tablet.
Display
The Google Pixel C sports a 10.2-inch display with 2560 x 1800 pixels a resolution. Sony Xperia Z4 tablet comes closer to Google in this offering with a 10.1-inch display and a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. Both the devices offer an excellent display and vibrant colours.
Camera
The Google Pixel C boasts a rear camera of 8MP and a 2MP front camera. The Sony Xperia Z4 tablet also has an 8MP rear camera, but it beats its Google counterpart with a 5MP front-facing snapper. Both the device produces good quality images, but not impressive, according to Pocket Lint.
Hardware
The Google Pixel C is powered by Nvidia Tegra X1 processor, paired with 3GB RAM and Maxwell graphics. On the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z4 tablet has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor coupled with 3GB RAM and Adreno graphics.
Moving on to storage, the Pixel C comes in two internal memory versions/models- 32GB and 64GB, without the microSD expansion support. While, the Xperia Z4 Tablet has 32GB of inbuilt memory and also offers microSD expansion support (up to 128GB).
Google claims that the Pixel C’s battery capacity can deliver up to 10-hours of video playback, whereas the Sony is packed with a 6000mAh battery capacity, which offers 17-hours of video playback.
Software
The Pixel C runs on the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, while Sony Xperia Z4 tablet has Android Lollipop, waiting for the Android M update. Sony has also included PS4 remote play, a console for gaming in its tablet.
Keyboards
The keyboards are attached by magnets with the Pixel C for dual purpose as laptop and tablet while Sony has the chunky attachment solution which gives stable support to the rear. Sony's keyboard also comes with a trackpad.
Price
The Google Pixel C with 32 GB storage costs AU$699 while the 64GB model costs AU$899. Telstra offers the Z4 Tablet’s 4G/LTE variant in the black colour on a contract. For outright, it will cost AU$888 and is available in Wi-Fi model from Sony Centres and Sony Online.
Conclusion
Sony Xperia Z4 tablet gives you a good battery life and microSD support while Pixel C lacks it. Pixel C is available at a cheaper price as compared to Xperia Z4 price. However, Xperia Z4’s high price is justified, considering its features.
Andriod Authority claims that Google Pixel C is a “fantastic” but “not a productivity machine it is meant to be.” However, the device will soon get Android N update in future, which will equip it with the feature of split-screen multi-tasking, thus making it superior to its Sony counterpart.
