Google is teaming up with Samsung in cooking up its own iPad 5 killer menu - the 11-inch Nexus 11 that will take the place of the full-sized stock Android tablet Nexus 10.

Powering this iPad rival is Samsung's Exynos CPU, possibly giving the tablet the power and efficiency it needs to compete effectively with the Apple slate, which according to research firms remains the top performing slate as of the first quarter of 2013.

The Nexus 11 will inherit the task of trying to dethrone Apple as the world's top tablet maker, which its predecessor tried to accomplish last year with little success.

Google will try to upstage the iPad 5's Retina display technology by deploying a display component called Super PLS TFT, according to SamMobile. While the screen is not AMOLED or Retina, it is wholly capable of bringing in immersive display rendering, the same report said.

The Nexus 11 will retail with 64GB of storage space on-board plus the option to expand through its microSD card slot. The device is provided with a rear snapper that shoots with an 8MP camera sensor while on front, the chip is 2MP.

As expected, to run the show is vanilla Android to tussle it out with iOS 7 but considering the new reports that Google will ship out Jelly Bean 4.3 this year, there is little chance that Nexus 11 users will get to test drive first Key Lime Pie.

Without an official declaration, the Nexus 11 is Google's way of warring with Apple's upcoming iPad 5, which reports said has been subjected to a significant design and feature overhaul.

On its release date, rumoured to be on October 2013, the iPad 5 will assume the profile of its smaller brother, the iPad Mini, thinner, lighter and less bezel. The modification, analysts said, takes its page from the fact that the Mini outsold the original iPad in the past two quarters.

No details were provided yet on the look-factor that would come with the Nexus 11 but analyst expect the slab to follow the prevailing tablet model at the moment - a solid but light chassis that holds together powerful components.

Experts pegged the Nexus 11 release date to be between October and November this year, setting it up on a direct collision course with the iPad 5 debut. Google is also believed to issue a number of gadgets within the same schedule - among them the second-gen Nexus 7, the Nexus 4 LTE version and possibly the iPhone 5S rival, the Nexus 5.
