Google to Unpack Jelly Bean 4.3-Powered Nexus 7 2 on July 11? Early August Release Date Likely to Follow for the iPad Mini 2 Rival
A gadget unpacking is set to occur this week, specifically on July 11, as Google will reportedly take the stage to introduce its new iPad Mini killer - the powerful and still affordable Nexus 7 2.
Numerous have indicated that Google and Motorola will jointly stage an event Thursday this week, with the tech giant's Mountain View hideout hosting the occasion that was first revealed by long-time tech figure Leo Laporte last week.
In a tweet, Mr Laporte signalled that the Moto X will be getting its official unveiling but tech watchers could not help to speculate that a bigger device will be revealed at the same time.
Rumoured to be first Android to display the powers that Google will unleash via Jelly Bean 4.3, the second-gen Nexus 7 is likely to be given a peek later this week, prepping for its commercial availability in the few weeks to follow.
There is reason to believe that Nexus 7 2 will hit Google Play Store either by late July or first week of August, which should be the latest for the vanilla Android tablet's most-awaited debut, Gotta Be Mobile said in a report.
A precursor event, however, will take place first and all indications point to the Android 4.3 that will be presented by Google on the scheduled July 11 show as a surprise package.
The Nexus 7 2 joins the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One as the first batch of high-end devices to absorb the latest Jelly Bean build and the likelihood is they will be followed by Google Edition variants from Sony and Huawei.
Touted as the toughest iPad Mini 2 rival to come out this year, the Nexus 7 second coming is equipped with a quad-core Snapdragon chip, either a 600 or 800 class, and a 1080p screen revolution that easily bests the Mini's display panel - with or without Retina.
Yet the more attractive feature that the Nexus 7 2 would bring about is accessibility. Analysts are convinced that Asus and Google will keep the price mark on solid grounds, straddling between $200 and 220 for the 16GB model that also comes with a camera mix of 5MP on rear and 1.2MP on front.
In comparison, the iPad Mini 2, with Retina and faster processor, is seen to carry the same tag price of the first version, at $329, though there were projections from a number of analysts that a Mini edition will hit store shelves priced at around $240.
That particular build, of course, would be the so-called cheaper iPad Mini 2, which is pegged for a September or October release date.
