Google’s First Chromebook Store Opens in London
The first of many stores Google will roll out worldwide opened its doors to customers in London on Friday.
The store called Chrome Zone will exclusively sell Chromebooks, which runs on Chrome OS. The store is located at the Currys and PC World superstore in Tottenham Court Road.
"People will be able to go in and have a play with the devices. We want to see whether people understand what this device is all about and monitor their reaction when they try it out." Said Google's UK and Ireland consumer marketing head Arvind Desikan, according to Electronista.com.
The Chromebook store mimics the Apple store with its own demonstration system and staff. The color, of course, matches the Google's color scheme.
The next UK store is to open this week in Essex. Other stores in other countries are scheduled for opening in the months ahead.
Google hopes to increase Chromebook exposure and sales through its own retail stores. Online sale of the computer is modestly successful, but the search engine giant has never revealed the number.
Chromebook also features the Chrome web browser, a 12-inch screen for the Samsung model, high-definition webcam, two USB ports, and Wi-Fi and 3G capability. The first model, called Cr-48 made by Acer and Samsung began shipping in June. Its price range is $349 to $499.
