Google’s launches new service “What Do You Love.com”
Google's new service called What Do You Love lets users discover all the services the search giant is capable of.
The site which was launched without much fanfare and went live yesterday at first glance doesn't seem to be more than a big advertisement for Google. Site users can type in a search topic in the search box and click on the heart button to get the results. The idea behind www.wdyl.com is to let users view results across numerous Google products. For example you can type in a term like money and the site will give you results like pictures of money, money on Google Trends, videos on money, etc. The results highlight Gmail, Calendar, Chrome and other Google products. It doesn't take a genius to see what the site is really promoting.
What is really promising about the site is how well it is designed. The results are split into different widgets per category. There are widgets for Google translate, Books, YouTube, etc. It's still unclear why the site exists at all. According to TechCrunch the site is supposed to "create a unified UI to search in multiple channels." It does do a great job of showing how well Google has products in different platforms.
The "What Do You Love" site could be a jumping off point for a new ad campaign or it could be a beta of a new style for Google's site. Whatever the reason the site seems to have piqued the interest of a lot of people which could have been Google's aim all along.
