The second season of “Gotham” ended with a brief teaser that revealed a dark mask which was not too familiar to many Batman fans.
Spoiler alert! This article contains “Gotham” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.
The mask revealed is a Court of Owls mask, which will be worn by the antagonists in the upcoming season of the much anticipated series. The TV version of “Gotham” features the Dark Knight’s younger days in his hometown.
Executive producer John Stephens reveals to ComingSoon that they will dive even deeper into the Court of Owls in the upcoming season. He also describes the group as a sort resembling the Illuminate that has been putting Gotham on the palms of their hands for centuries. They may also possibly be the real masterminds of the murder of Bruce Wayne’s parents, Martha and Thomas Wayne.
The Court of Owls was created very recently, actually just five years ago by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. While very much younger compared to the well loved classic villains of the caped crusader, which fans have loved to hate, the group has quickly grown to be a favourite among fans.
They are portrayed in the comics as a group that, while wearing ordinary civilian clothes, also wear large, round and eerie white masks with large openings for their eyes. They operate stealthily from within Gotham and do bids through their forerunner, The Talon.
The Talon, whose real name is Calvin Rose, is portrayed in the comic books as a man in a dark cloak. This mask has bright eyes resembling an owl and is loaded with plenty of weapons.
ComicVine describes this nemesis as the only member to have ever escaped the grasp of the Court of Owls. He is also an excellent escape artist and is a skilful and trained assassin. He was defeated by Bane but was resurrected by his loyal companions later. While he has escaped from his group, he returned upon discovering that the Court of Owls was getting defeated.
Aside from the addition of this group, not too popular characters like Solomon Grundy, Mad Hatter, and a whole lot more are set to appear in the next season.
Gotham Season 3 is set to premiere on September19, 2016 on Fox. It also airs on Syfy in Australia.
