'Gotham' season 3 spoilers & updates: The Joker returns and threatens the Penguin and Riddler’s criminal organizations

The Joker (Cameron Monaghan) is expected to return in “Gotham” Season 3, although viewers are not exactly sure when. There are rumours on how his big return will affect the criminal activities throughout Gotham City.

In “Gotham” Season 2, the Penguin (Robin Taylor) and Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) have been monopolizing the city’s criminal operations. However, Joker is expected to change all that when he comes back. Jerome will expectedly return from the dead, and take on a creepier and more insane persona and appearance. The Penguin and Riddler may feel threatened by Joker’s resurrection, especially because the latter is no longer the person he used to be.

Although the Penguin and Riddler were capable of holding their ground against other criminal rivals in “Gotham,” the Joker poses a different kind of risk to the two kingpins. After the Joker reportedly died, he gained a huge following, which also means that he will be handling a huge force. This may be stronger than what the two crime bosses currently have under their control. Jerome is unique from other criminal leaders, because he is not interested money and power. He simply wants seeing people suffer.

After several copycat murders occurred throughout Gotham City, Penguin cautioned that Jerome’s legacy poses a threat to his organization. Several people are afraid of the Joker, and if news surface that he is back from the dead, the Penguin and Riddler could lose many of their loyal men and allies. Penguin operates at a more precise and controlled pace, so the Joker’s crazy and unpredictable ways will definitely be a distraction for his business. The two are expected to collide soon in “Gotham” Season 3.

The Joker Coming in Season 4?

Executive producer John Stephens actually shared that they are 100% keen on bringing Jerome back, writes Inverse. Although they did not specify when he will reappear, “Gotham” will develop the story to eventually lead to Jerome’s resurrection soon. Season 3 may set the stage, with the huge revelation happening in Season 4. They wish to showcase different version of the Joker myth.

“Gotham” season 3 is currently on break and will return to FOX in January 16, 2017. It also airs on SyFy in Australia.
