GTA 5 PC Torrent Fools Gamers: Installs 18 GB Malware
A Grand Theft Auto (GTA 5 PC) torrent fools gamers into thinking they are downloading a leaked GTA 5 PC version, but the file installs 18 GB of malware instead.
Demand for the GTA 5 PC version has reached an all-time high. Aside from online petition that asks for its immediate release and predictions of its possible system requirements, fans have been salivating over it that they will do anything to get their hands on it. They will even download the so-called bootleg copy of its leaked version online.
However, such version is not a bootleg copy, but is indeed a malware. Once downloaded from the Torrent site, it will install 18 GB of malware in one's computer. It has fooled a lot of people and reportedly affected thousands of PCs worldwide.
Apparently, the "leaked version" of GTA 5 PC really looks like the real deal. The legitimate looking file even has a setup.exe file that actually works. That's why a lot of people downloaded it without suspecting that it is bogus, or worse, a malware that infects computers.
According to WCCF Tech, it received reports of the GTA 5 PC "leaked version" from their readers, so it investigated it immediately.
"We were surprised and dismayed to discover an unbelievably legit looking file - but one that was quite obviously a scam. The reason? It was infected," WCCF Tech said.
WCCF Tech noticed from the torrent's Seed Ratio and from the site metrics that it has already been downloaded by thousands.
The file really targets unsuspecting users, but it can fool even wary ones because it doesn't show any signs of malicious activity. It has a high search engine optimization (SEO) ranking. It is a verified and unreported torrent, casting any doubts of its legitimacy aside.
Users will only realize that their PCs have been infected when they see a .txt file located on the registration window. It tells the user that it has a key on a page where they end up being forced to do surveys!
Because this GTA 5 PC torrent has fooled a lot of gamers by installing 18 GB of malware on their computers instead of the supposed leaked version, this should serve as a lesson for the impatient and gullible gamers out there.
Just wait for official news from GTA and Rockstar Games about GTA 5 PC. If the PC version will indeed be released, it is better to know for sure from the authorized and trusted sources to avoid scams like this.
