'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Vin Diesel Confirms Groot Will Be Back, Teases 'Cool Things' To Expect From The Character
Vin Diesel talked about the return of Groot in “Guardians of Galaxy 2.” The actor was at the MTV Movie Awards, where he sang “See You Again” in memory of his late friend and colleague Paul Walker. [Spoiler alert]
The commercial success of “Furious 7” prompted Vin Diesel to talk about the next movie from the franchise, but the actor was also excited about returning as Groot in “Guardian of the Galaxy 2.” In this video posted on the MTV YouTube channel, the actor can be seen sharing that he originally planned to wear his Groot stilts for the event.
“I’m hearing really cool things about what we can expect from Groot,” Vin Diesel said. The actor is apparently in touch with the director James Gunn, who will also be writing the script for the movie. James Gunn was also the writer and director of the highly successful 2014 “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie.
“James Gunn is so excited and every time I talk to James Gunn you hear the excitement in his voice and that makes me excited,” Vin Diesel said. The actor did not reveal how his character was going to return in “Guardian of the Galaxy 2.”
In the previous movie, the character had sacrificed himself in order to save his friends. He was later seen towards the end of the movie as “baby Groot” and was dancing to music when no one was looking. The previous movie also featured Thanos, who was looking for Infinity Stones.
According to a report by HitFix, director Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed at a press conference that “Guardians of the Galaxy” was supposed to feature more of Thanos. But after the success of the “Avengers” movie, the role of the mad Titan was reduced in the James Gunn movie to make room for the storyline in the next few “Avengers” movies.
Thanos will be the main villain in the two “Avengers” movies slated to be released in 2018 and 2019. It is still unclear if the character will make a cameo appearance in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” which is slated to be released in early 2017.
