Damian Lewis has been voted by his supporters as the next possible actor to follow after Daniel Craig’s footsteps. Gamblers have favoured the actor to be the next James Bond or Agent 007.

Daniel Craig will soon pass on his double agent role as James Bond to another actor and the media has been high on speculations as to who that person could be. Damian Lewis has been added to the list of possible stars, along with Jason Statham and Idris Elba, who can portray as Agent 007. According to Mirror UK, Lewis is heavily tipped to be the next James Bond after a gamble result favoured the “Homeland” star.

Bookmakers from Ladbrokes reportedly gave Damian Lewis a vote of 2/1 and was given the odds 6/4 from William Hill. “This is an unprecedented gamble, as for no apparent reason we have seen bets of up to £200 on Damien Lewis being named as the next Bond,” Rupert Adams, spokesman for William Hill, said. "This could well be significant and might herald the end of Daniel Craig as the world’s most famous spy,” he added.

Adams said the gamble for Damian Lewis to be the next James Bond has definitely piqued the interest of the market. It has reportedly also waned fans’ belief that Daniel Craig could still return as Agent 007 in future films.

Ladbrokes representative Jessica Bridge also recalled how the gamble on Damian Lewis to be the next James Bond just suddenly poured in. “The gamble on Lewis has developed out of nowhere and with such serious pace we've been forced to cut his odds all the way down into favouritism,” she said.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Damian Lewis had previously hinted his interest to play as James Bond. The flame-haired actor reportedly once joked that the Scottish heritage defined in “Skyfall” seemed the perfect way to introduce a red-headed Agent 007 in future James Bond films.

Among the other actors gambled to be the next James Bond or Agent 007 include Tom Hardy with the odds of 4/1, Henry Cavill at 5/1 odds, Michael Fassbender with 7/1 and Idris Elba given the odds of 5/2. Jason Statham was recently rumoured to have been eyed for the role as well.
