Hong Kong Design Student Gains Acclaim for Somber Tribute to Steve Jobs
A 19-year-old design student from Hong Kong, Jonathan Mak, created a tribute to the late co-founder of Apple during his resignation from Apple. Little did he know that his design would go viral all over the world in the wake of Steve Job's death.
A student of Hong Kong's Polytechnic University School of Design, Jonathan Mak created the logo with Steve Job's silhouette over the bite in Apple's logo. It symbolizes the CEO's departure and legacy on the company.
The design has captured the minds and hearts of netizens world-wide. People have been posting it in their social media networks, websites and using it as their profile picture or avatar. Even celebrities have used the picture like the actor Ashton Kutcher.
While there are many tributes to Steve Jobs, sometimes funny and sometimes just without taste, one stood above it all. The design is simple and in black and white. A fitting tribute to the CEO who championed simplicity in design and to the company whose minimalist aesthetics have wowed millions. Mak claimed that he indeed received a job offer because of his design.
The world will mourn the technology entrepreneur who revolutionized computing by combining aesthetics, ergonomics and technology together. Currently, tributes all over the world are still pouring in, not only in the form of pictures, words and videos in the internet, but also flowers and messages in front of Apple stores worldwide.
