Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini can be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat by doing manual installation and it features all the default changes of 4.4 version plus major tweaks for system performance.

CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 KitKat

CyanogenMod 11 finally supports Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini with Android 4.4 KitKat custom ROM. It features all the original changes of the newest Android version and additional tweaks such as:

- 2D/3D hardware acceleration

- GPS and A-GPS

- Compass and sensors

- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, all native tethers

- CyanogenMod 11 exclusive functions

- CPU sleep mode enabled

- YouTube high quality

- Linux kernel version 3.0.101

- Native 64 GB and SD card exFAT support

- Offline charging

- No 1 GHz known bugs

There is one currently known issue with the CM11 for Galaxy S3 Mini and it's the camera/video porting which is underdevelopment. The stock camera app may freeze and not all videos can be played smoothly.

Requirements

1. Root the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and install a TWRP custom recovery on the phone.

2. Create a backup of all personal data stored on your Galaxy S3 Mini.

3. Ensure that the battery level is at least 50 percent to avoid power interruption during the installation.

4. Enabled USB debugging mode on the smartphone. Go to "Settings > Application > Development > USB debugging."

5. Download and install all necessary USB drivers required for your phone.

6. Download the CyanogenMod 11 and Google Apps package for Galaxy S3 Mini to the computer.

Flashing Instructions

1. Connect the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini to your computer using a USB cable.

2. Copy the CyanogenMod 11 custom ROM and Google Apps package then paste them to the SD card of your smartphone.

3. Disconnect the Galaxy S3 Mini then use the TWRP to reboot into recovery mode.

4. Use may touch commands to navigate and select throughout TWRP menu options.

5. Inside the recovery mode, select "backup" to save the current ROM on the phone. Use the "restore" if you want the saved ROM to be restored anytime.

6. Now perform a full wipe by selecting "wipe" on the menu to erase data, cache partition and Dalvik cache. CM users upgrading to version 11 can skip this step.

7. Install the CyanogenMod 11 by selecting "install" then search for the firmware you have pasted earlier. Apply the same with Google Apps package.

8. After the installation, select "reboot > system" to reboot the smartphone.

9. It may take at least 5 minutes to reach the home screen as the phone runs the new firmware for the first time.

Well done! Your Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is now running the latest Android 4.4 KitKat thanks to CyanogenMod 11 custom ROM.
