HP Slate 17 Release Soon, Meet the Android Tablet and Notebook Rolled Into One
Hewlett-Packard is releasing an all-in-one device targeted towards a specific niche. In a few weeks, they will be launching the HP Slate 17, a 17-inch tablet, Android-based notebook, and a monitor rolled into one.
According to a report by NDTV Gadgets, while HP has not yet officially announced the HP 17, their Peru site already lists the product. While the website does not list an official price tag, reports peg it to cost around $740.
All-In-One Product
Into Mobile is calling it a "niche product few will want to buy," while Device Mag says it is the next step to the evolution of technology. This latest addition to the Slate series can be used either as a tablet, a notebook, or a desktop monitor, depending on the needs of its user.
According to NDTV Gadgets, the device will run Android KitKat 4.4.2 out of the box. The 17-inch screen is a full HD display, with Into Mobile listing its resolution at 1920 x 1080 px. According to Device Mag, the processor is a step down from the previous Slate models, with the HP Slate 17 carrying a 1.5 GHz Intel Celeron N2807 Bay Trail Processor instead of the previous NVIDIA Tegra.
The device will also reportedly featuring the following: Intel HD Graphics, 2GB RAM, Beats Audio, HDMI and USB 2.0 ports, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, and a 720p webcam for video conferences.
No Official Release Date Announced
Just as the hefty $740 price tag remains a rumor, the release date also remains unclear. Into Mobile cites a Mobile Geeks report that claims the HP Slate 17 will be available "in the next few weeks," but does not cite a specific date.
No reason was given as to why HP did not announce the HP Slate 17 at their IFA 2014 event earlier in September. NDTV Gadgets points out that what they did announce in the event was another hybrid device, the HP Envy x2; a 2-in-1 HP Pavilion x2 tablet; and an 11-inch Chromebook.
