HP TouchPad at $99's Second Serving: 32 GB webOS Tablet Now $150 at Best Buy
For those who missed the buying frenzy when Hewlett Packard slashed the TouchPad's prices to $99 there is still a chance to get the hugely discounted tablet at Best Buy.
Hewlett Packard's popular $99 tablets have been sold out in most retail stores. HP has sent out notices that the company has run out of the tablets and will no longer be sending out shipments of the TouchPads.
"As you signed up for updates on the HP TouchPad, we wanted you to know that we are officially out of stock. Some retailers will have some stock available, but our online inventory is depleted," HP said in a notice.
Consumers who still want to get the TouchPad this Christmas Season will still get a chance to get one in Best Buy. The retailer announced that it will offer a 32Gb TouchPad for $149.99 but interested buyers will have to get it with a HP or Compaq Laptop, Desktop or All-in-One computer.
Best Buy will start selling the TouchPad promo bundle on November 1. If you're interested in getting a TouchPad you better hurry because there's only limited stock available. Estimates have pegged at least 100,000 to 200,000 TouchPad units still available after HP cleared its supply but this number isn't confirmed by HP or Best Buy.
The HP TouchPad became an instant best-seller in August when HP began selling the tablet for $99.99 for the 16Gb version of the tablet. The company had previously announced that it will no longer be supporting the webOS software and that it will no longer be manufacturing any PCs or tablets. HP had recently reversed that decision by saying that it won't sell off its PC division and that it was open to making more tablets for other operating systems. HP's CEO Meg Whitman said that company was still deliberating about the future of the webOS over the next few months.
Despite the lack of support for the webOS developers and consumers still want more TouchPads. The discounted price and the tablets modest specs make it ideal for any consumer who doesn't want to spend on the high-end Apple or Samsung tablets. Developers are working on porting the Android OS to the TouchPad and there have been reports that HP is ready to test Windows 8 on the tablet.
