The newly launcehd HTC 10 smartphone has already received overwhelmly positive reviews, stating it as one of the best Android phones of 2016 to date. Here's a comparison of the specifications, features and price of the HTC 10 and of the Huawei Mate 8.

Display and design

The Huawei Mate 8 features a 6-inch Full HD LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The huge display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The phone measures 157.1 x 80.6 x 7.9 mm and weighs 185g.

On the other hand, the HTC 10 features a 5.2-inch 2K Super LCD 5 display carrying a Quad HD resolution of 2,560×1,440 pixels.

Both the smartphones adorn a metallic unibody design with fingerprint scanner onboard.

According to a Huawei Mate 8 review by Pocket Lint, the fingerprint scanner of the smartphone is twice as fast as its predecessor, the Mate 7. Moreover, HTC claims to have included the fastest fingerprint scanner right on the home button.

Processor, RAM and storage

The HTC 10 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset with two cores clocked at 2.15 GHz and two cores clocked at 1.6, paired with 4GB of RAM.

On the other hand, Huawei’s in-house octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor runs the Mate 8. The eight-cores come in quad-core 2.3Ghz Cortex A72 and quad core 1.8GHz Cortex A53 form.

The smartphone can be configured with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM.

A Geekbench multithread score published by Ubergizmo reveals that the Mate 8 outshines the HTC 10 in the benchmark test.

Both the HTC 10 and Huawei Mate 8 offer 32GB or 64GB of in-built storage. The internal storage capacity for both the handsets can be expanded via microSD slots. The maximum expandable storage capacity for HTC 10 is 2TB as compared to 128GB for Mate 8.

The HTC 10 also sports a unique adoptable storage, which is absent in Mate 8. This means the HTC 10 will be able to unite the expandable storage with the native storage capacity and take it as internal memory.

Camera

The HTC 10 is the world’s first ever smartphone to sport OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) on both front and rear facing camera units. The 12MP UltraPixel camera sports an aperture ƒ/1.8 lens. The main camera features faster laser autofocus and flash.

On the other hand, the Huawei Mate 8 Mate comes with 16-megapixel IMX298 rear-facing camera sensor by Sony, sporting optical image stabilisation (OIS), LED flash, phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF) and has an aperture of f/2.0.

Mate 8 also touts an 8-megapixel IMX179 front-facing sensor as compared to the 5MP UltraPixel selfie shooter of HTC 10.

Battery

The Mate 8 houses a gigantic 4,000 mAh battery as compared to 3,000 mAh of HTC 10. The Huawei Mate 8 review by Android Pit reveals that the smartphone can run for two and a half days on a single charge.

Audio and USB support

One of the main focuses of HTC 10 has been its revamped audio capabilities. The 24-bit, Hi-Res audio is capable of recoding 256 times more detail than standard recordings, said HTC in a press note.

Moreover, HTC’s newly announced handset touts USB Type C v3.1 reversible connector for faster data connections, which is not present in the Mate 8. The smartphone also sports an improved thermal management system to take care of the overheating issues of the Snapdragon 820 chipset.

Software

The NFC-supported Mate 8 is shipped with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and 4.0 EMUI skin on top.

On the HTC 10, a pre-installed Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow also in Doze, Google Now on Tap, Apps permission and support for Android Pay.

Price

The Huawei Mate 8 with 3GB/32GB stoarge costs 599 euros (AU$966) whereas the 4GB/64GB model will come with a price tag of 699 euros (AU$1,128).

The official website of the company has listed the HTC 10 at $699 (AU$952).
