HTC Desire 820 vs Samsung Galaxy S5: Size, Performance, Specs, Features and Price
There were a lot of new products unveiled at IFA 2014 in Berlin and one of the mid-ranged smartphones that was unveiled on the event was HTC Desire 820. Samsung on the other hand unveiled its Galaxy Note Edge. It will not be fair to compare the HTC Desire 820 to Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. So, it is going to be HTC Desire 820 against Samsung Galaxy S5.
The Desire 820 sports a 5.5-inch 720 x 1,280 LCD capacitive touchscreen having 267 ppi while the Galaxy S5 LTE A was available since April 2014 and this handset was quite popular among consumers. It sports a 5.1-inch 1,080 x 1,920 super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen having 432 ppi. The first phone is a bit larger but it has nothing more to offer when it comes to the display.
The HTC Desire 820 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 that stands on 1.5GHz, Adreno 405, 2GB of RAM and a battery capacity of up to 2,600mAh. It has accelerometer, proximity sensor, and compass. It comes in 16GB but it can be expanded to 128GB via micro SD card.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S5 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 that stands on 2.5GHz, Adreno 330, 2GB of RAM and a battery capacity of up to 2,600mAh. It also has an accelerometer and a compass but it also features a gyrometer, barometer, heart rate monitor and a fingerprint sensor on the home button. It is available in 16GB and 32GB variants that can be expanded up to 128GB via micro SD card.
The Desire 820 is the best mid-range handset that has some pretty good specs so far for this year. When it comes to the design, both devices are made of plastic but HTC played and mixed up the colors that consumers have a lot of choices. It is available in marble white, tuxedo grey, santourini white, milky way grey, tangerine white, saffron grey, flamingo grey, blue misty and monarch orange. The Galaxy S5 on the other hand offers a removable back plate that made of faux leather and it comes in black, gold, blue and white.
Both smartphones run on Android 4.4 Kitkat and both might be upgraded to Android L once it is made available. HTC Desire 820 costs $430 without a contract while the Samsung S5 cost $ 649.99. Both smartphone a good but for consumers that want an affordable handset, the HTC Desire 820 might be a good choice and it has some pretty decent specs as well.
