The Google Nexus 8 on its release date will hit the market as the HTC Nexus 9 and judging on the latest leaked specs, the vanilla Android slate is a raging bull that aims to tussle with the industry leaders.

The details provided by well-regarded Twitter news-breaker @evleaks point to a device that will be officially named as Nexus 9, likely due to its 8.9-inch screen profile, the measurement of which was precisely designed to take on the iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 duo of Apple.

The iOS tablets come in 9.7-inch and 7.9-inch screen sizes, respectively.

And purportedly to defeat the impressive Retina display panel that the two iPads are treated with, Google and HTC will deploy the Nexus tab with a Retina-busting screen resolution of 2560 x 1600, packing as well the front panel with 281 of pixels per inch, @evleaks said on his latest tweet.

Yet according to Business Insider, the second iPad Mini already boasts of 326ppi so the Apple tablet will handily win when it comes to rendering more defined images and clips on the screen.

Even against the 8.4-inch Galaxy Tab S that Samsung will begin selling this July 2014, the Nexus 9 is no match in the screen sharpness battle. The Tab S front panel, Business Insider said, is flooded by Samsung with up to 360ppi.

Nevertheless, this Nexus 9 will be an impressive kit in the making if the @evleaks information will prove correct. The device's main engine is a quad-core Tegra K1 processing chip from NVIDIA that spins at top frequency of 2.3GHz.

It is noteworthy that by allegedly opting for an NVIDIA-made chipset, Google has essentially killed the earlier speculation that an Intel Moorefield will be the powerhouse that is inside of next Nexus tablet push.

To further support the already speedy mobile computing and multitasking capabilities that the Nexus 9 is bestowed with, the RAM provision has been amped up to 5GB, according to @evleaks, likely making the device with the highest random-access memory installed out of the box.

It is also suggested that the tablet will offer up to 64GB of internal memory that can accommodate all the clips and images, plus all the other files, that users will create on its exciting camera combo of 8MP on rear and 5MP on front - the latter no doubt geared to become the selfie-absorbed best friend.

Touted too as one of the biggest selling point for the Nexus 9 is its premium body finish that the leak said will be in a silver aluminium unibody frame, obviously taking a page from HTC's critically acclaimed HTC One M7 and M8.

There were earlier hints that mass production of the Nexus 9 will commence either in July or August, positioning the device for a September or October 2014 release date, likely showing off Android L (which could be version 4.5 or 5.0) with a sticker price that is a tad higher from that of the Nexus 7's maximum asking price of $350.
