Reports about the next flagship smartphone from HTC have been flooding the Internet in the past few weeks. Currently, another report claimed the much anticipated HTC's next flagship smartphone might be called HTC One 2 (M8) and not One + if the listing made on the New Caledonia's Office of Posts and Telecommunications Web site was accurate.

Although New Caledonia, the French Web site, has nothing much to do with the new smartphone, it cited the existence of the HTC One 2 alongside the HTC One 2 Dual SIM. According to the OPT.nc, the HTC One 2 and the HTC One 2 Dual SIM will sport 3G connectivity (900/2100 MHz).

Essentially, the list was made to allow people who travel to New Caledonia to know if their devices can use the local 3G network. The HTC One 2 and the One 2 Dual SIM might be merely placeholders that were put in expectation of the M8. Nevertheless, a new HTC flagship smartphone, which offers dual SIM feature makes sense because the original HTC One has also a dual SIM version.

Also, recent rumors suggested HTC will introduce an HTC One 2 (M8) mini alongside the regular HTC (M8). HTC has yet to make official announcements about these versions of its flagship smartphone.

The appearance of the HTC One 2 (M8) and HTC One 2 Dual SIM in the French Web site might be one solid proof indicating this branding of the new top-of-the-line device from HTC.

Meanwhile, the dual SIM version of the HTC One 2 (M8) was odd considering the dual SIM feature has been seen only in midrange smartphones in the past. Perhaps, HTC aims to target the already competitive Asian market with this dual SIM flagship smartphones, especially the Asian market is quite particular with dual SIM droids.

At this point, although the source of the listing is reliable, we cannot believe anything yet, until the Taiwanese company makes it official.
