HTC One 2, also known as HTC M8, may have the same release date as Samsung Galaxy S5.

Rumors claimed the two handsets will make a splash at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) next month. MWC is one of the biggest tech events of the year. Both HTC and Samsung are eager trade show participants by introducing new devices in the market.

The first generation of HTC One was released at MWC 2013. Its successor will most likely be introduced at this year's convention.

Respected HTC-based developer, LlabTooFeR, revealed that he expect HTC One 2 to pack at least the next version of Android Kitkat OS, which is either 4.5 or 5.0 and the HTC's own Sense 6 UI.

Both Google and HTC have not confirmed the rumor yet as both features are still in development stages. However, given LlabTooFeR's track record, it is good to note that Sense 6 will come in the next HTC smartphone.

Reliable tipster @evleaks leaked that HTC M8 will pack a 5-inch full HD screen display, ultrapixel rear camera and 2.1 MP front facing camera, 2 GB RAM and Sense 6.0. To the disappointment of many waiting fans, HTC One 2 may come with quad core Snapdragon 800 and not with the previously rumored Snapdragon 805. The number of pixels was not revealed in the tip.

XDA member that goes with the name of Mike1986, as cited by Android Origin, said HTC M8 is the successor of HTC One but it will be named as HTC One+ when it hits the global market. He added consumers can expect 5-inch 1080p Gorilla Glass 3 screen, a Qualcomm made Snapdragon 805 processor, 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, a 6MP or an 8MP UltraPixel camera with double lens, a 2.1MP front camera, a huge battery tank of 2,900 mAh, a microSD card slot and NFC, the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat OS and HTC Sense 6.0.

However, all of these features must be treated as a grain of salt until HTC confirmed the specifications of the second generation of HTC One next month. HTC fans have high expectations on HTC M8 after its predecessor garnered various awards and recognition as one of the best smartphones of 2013.
