HTC One to Get Android 4.4 KitKat OS Update in January; Google Edition in 15 Days
The HTC One is bound to receive Android 4.4 KitKat OS update in January but its Google Play Edition will receive the update in the next 15 days.
HTC is the first manufacturer to inform its users on the roll out of Android 4.4 KitKat OS update for its devices.
Android Central quoted an HTC spokesperson saying: "We're all excited about Google's Halloween treat and plan on breaking off a piece of that Kit Kat bar for the HTC One. In North America, we'll deliver Android 4.4 with Sense 5.5 for the HTC One within 90 days, and the HTC One max and the HTC One mini will follow."
Later, HTC America President Jason Mackenzie has told Engadget that the Google Play edition HTC One will be updated to Android 4.4 within 15 days, while the unlocked and developer models will see updates in 30 days.
Thus, consumers owning an HTC One Google Play edition will receive the update by the end of November.
Unlocked or international variant as well as carrier-based models will receive the KitKat software at a later date and will bring an update on HTC's own Sense interface. The unique features packed by manufacturers on their smartphones will cause the indefinite delay on the roll out of the update as manufacturers test and approve their bloatware and add-ons to make sure they still work with the updated Android system.
However, it is still unclear when the recently released HTC One Mini and HTC One Max will get the Android 4.4 KitKat update. It is speculated too that HTC Droid DNA, Butterfly, J, and possibly the HTC One X+ all have the chance to get Android 4.4 KitKat.
The Taiwanese manufacturer has not been consistent in releasing Android 4.3 JellyBean update on its line of devices and caused persistent delays. HTC device owners are advised to be patient in waiting for the OS upgrade.
Android 4.4 KitKat OS was released alongside the new Google Nexus smartphone - Nexus 5. Google announced that Nexus 4, 7 and 10 as well as Google Play Edition smartphones are the first to receive the KitKat software update.
