HTC One M9 on Sasktel, Rogers, Wind and Videotron will get Marshmallow starting today
HTC has scheduled major Marshmallow updates for its eligible handsets this January, as expected. The company confirmed that starting today, the HTC One M9 on Canadian carriers including Sasktel, Rogers, Wind and Videotron will start receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
Mo Versi, VP of Product Management HTC made the announcement on his Twitter account on Jan. 15. As usual, OTA (over-the-air) Android 6.0 will go out in a staggered manner. The firmware update may take few days to reach out to all devices, reports Android Police.
During its launch in March 2015, the HTC One M9 had Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed with HTC Sense UI 7.0. From July onwards the device was upgraded to Android v5.1 in phases depending on region and carrier.
While replying to a query from one of his Twitter followers, Versi also revealed that the HTC One M8 will receive the firmware update in the coming weeks. The company has plans to roll out the firmware update to the Sprint variant of the M8 soon. As tweeted by Versi, the T-Mobile variant of the device should start getting the Marshmallow update from Jan. 25.
HTC One M8 was launched in early 2014 with Android 4.4 out-of-the-box. Since then, the phone has been updated to Android 4.4.3 and Android 5.0 . According to Phone Arena, Android 6.0 could be the last update for the device.
Last month, the unlocked units of One M9 in the US received the Android 6.0 update. At the same time, the company announced the roll out of Android v6.0.1 for the latest HTC One A9 in the US. HTC boasts to be the first non-Nexus device manufacturer to launch a smartphone, the One A9 with Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
