HTC One M9 With Snapdragon 810 On Board Encounters Overheating Problem Warning When Accessing AnTuTu Benchmark Site
With the MWC 2015 event approaching the end, the unveiled high-end devices so far namely the HTC One M9, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge have been garnering massive attention from across the globe. At the same time, these handsets have apparently been visiting the AnTuTu benchmark testing site, time and again. During one such visit, the HTC One M9 reportedly seems to have given an overheating problem warning.
It is worth noting that, the HTC One M9 is powered by an octa-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 810) 64-bit processor. According to Android Headlines, earlier reports pointed out that, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset has overheating problems and this also lead to the news that Samsung will not use the said chip in its flagship device. And now, it is a known fact that, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge are powered by an octa-core Samsung Exynos 7420 chip, instead of Qualcomm’s SoC.
In December 2014, when the overheating problem pertaining to Qualcomm garnered immense attention, both Qualcomm and LG reportedly dismissed the problem. Notably, LG’s 2015 flagship G4 is believed to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip. Based on a report from the site Mobilissimo, the HTC One M9 has apparently stumbled on to an overheating issue while running benchmarks at the MWC 2015 event in Barcelona.
Apparently, one of the MWC 2015 event attendees ran AnTuTu benchmarks on the HTC One M9, however, the handset was not able to complete the process. Instead, a warning message reportedly cropped up stating the following lines - “The device temperature is too high. Please test again after cooling the device. Continue testing may cause the system to restart or shut down.” Interested readers can check out the screenshot of the warning message seen on the One M9 handset from Android Headlines link mentioned above.
Android Headlines’ analysis says there are several ways to look at this issue: One, this incident could be one off and possibly, the HTC One M9 handset was running for a prolonged period of time leading to overheating of the device. Two, it could be a minor fault and HTC should be able to fix the same via a software update. Three, the handset in question could be a faulty unit altogether. But then, there is one other serious possibility that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 SoC could indeed have the overheating problems pointed out earlier. In any case, the same site also points out that, the LG G Flex 2 also houses the same Snapdragon 810 SoC, however, this device does not seem to face any such issues.
What do you think of the HTC One M9 overheating problem? Could it just be a one off incident? Feel free to leave comment.
