HTC One Mini, Droid DNA, Butterfly S Confirmed to Get Android 4.4 KitKat; HTC One X Remains in the Dark
Several smartphones have emerged as eligible candidate for Android 4.4 KitKat update. Evidences spawned confirming upcoming updates for HTC One Maxx, One Mini, Droid DNA, Butterfly S and One X.
HTC One Maxx and Mini
The next recipient of Android 4.4 KitKat update among HTC smartphones are HTC One Maxx and One Mini. According to the Canadian network carrier Rogers, HTC One will receive an Android 4.4 update by late January 2014 while HTC One Mini is due on late February 2014.
Smartphone | Software Version | Release Date |
HTC One | Jelly Bean 4.3 | Now Available |
BlackBerry Z10 | BlackBerry 10.2 OS | Now Available |
BlackBerry Q10 | BlackBerry 10.2 OS | Now Available |
BlackBerry Q5 | BlackBerry 10.2 OS | Now Available |
HTC One | KitKat 4.4 | Late January 2014 |
HTC One Mini | KitKat 4.4 | Late February 2014 |
The network carrier only confirmed the timeframe but no specific dates yet but the information somehow hinted early update releases for the unlocked and international HTC One Mini variants before late February next year.
Regarding HTC One Maxx, it is expected to be announced soon and Android 4.4 KitKat update for the device should be ahead of One Mini right after HTC One.
HTC Droid DNA and Butterfly S
Since HTC announced Android 4.4 for HTC Droid DNA, it is also expected to happen to its relative, HTC Butterfly S. According to a reader from Singapore who sent documentation, HTC points a high chance for Butterfly S to receive Android 4.4 update next year and possible after Droid DNA gets the new firmware.
HTC One X
HTC One X is compatible with Android 4.4 KitKat but no positive news has been released regarding the upgrade plans for the smartphone. Reports claimed that One X may get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean; however, HTC Executive Director of Product Management Mo Versi killed the hopes of owners.
One users from Twitter ask the director if any Android 4.4 KitKat update is coming for HTC One X. Mo Versi replied that the company has no plans yet of 4.4 at this time and if anything changes, he will send an update.
It is obvious that HTC focused on current smartphone line ups and recent generation before HTC One on getting Android 4.4. Owners of HTC One X and One X+ should watch carefully since HTC needs to push more updates to retain edge against the trembling competition with Samsung, LG and Sony which are all now confirming Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade plans.
