HTC One X isn't confirmed to get an official Android 4.4 KitKat even eligible to run it. Fortunately, there is a firmware available for manual flashing to let owners of HTC One X enjoy Android 4.4 KitKat chocolaty treat.

HTC One X with Android 4.4 KitKat

Owners are waiting for HTC to release an Android 4.4 for One X but the company hasn't confirmed anything for the device. So far, only HTC One, One Max, One Mini and Droid DNA are expected to get the latest Android version.

But a custom Android 4.4 KitKat ROM is available which requires manual flashing on the HTC One X to get latest features of newest Android version.

Requirements

1. Root and unlock the bootloader of HTC One X to install the Android 4.4 custom ROM.

2. Create a manual backup of all data stored on the smartphone.

3. Make sure that the battery level is at least 50 per cent before any ROM flashing should be performed.

4. Enable USB debugging mode for your device. Go to "Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging."

5. Download a ROM manager app from the Play Store to your HTC One X.

6. Download and install all necessary USB drivers for HTC One X on your computer.

7. Download the Android 4.4 KitKat custom ROM and the Google Apps package to the computer.

Flashing Instructions

1. Connect your HTC One X to the computer using a USB cable.

2. Copy the Android 4.4 KitKat custom ROM and Google Apps package then paste them on the external storage of your smartphone. No need to extract the files.

3. Disconnect your HTC One X from the computer.

4. Launch the ROM manager app on your smartphone then select the option to reboot into recovery mode.

5. Inside the recovery mode, create an Android backup of the current ROM. Select "backup and restore > backup" to save a copy on your external storage. It is recommended to do this process with a custom recovery app installed on the phone.

6. Perform a full wipe by selecting "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition" then "advanced > wipe Dalvik cache."

7. Install the Android 4.4 KitKat ROM by selecting "install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card > look for the custom Rom you have pasted earlier > confirm installation." Apply the same with the Google Apps package.

8. After the installation, go back to the main menu then select "reboot system now."

9. HTC One X will restart and may take up to five minutes before reaching the home screen.
