Owners of the HTC One X and One S may face an impending doom on Android 4.4 KitKat firmware update due to a leaked information "denying the device" of the next-generation Android OS.

HTC Leakster - No KitKat Bars

Google's upcoming Android 4.4 KitKat OS may not reach the HTC One X, according to a recent tip. GottaBeMobile caught a note from HTC leakster which claims that there will be no chances for the HTC One X smartphone get an official Android 4.4 upgrade.

HTC did not confirm any information regarding the upcoming firmware release, but some of their devices such as HTC One have been included to the list receiving official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. It is expected that HTC will announce important details together with Android 4.4 and next-gen Nexus 5 in October 2013.

HTC insider LLabTooFeR revealed that there is "zero possibility" of Android 4.4 KitKat arriving on both HTC One X and One S smartphones. The maker recently released Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on the HTC One X including HTC Sense 5 and other JB goodies which could be the end of its life cycle.

Android 4.4 KitKat has been rumoured to support older phones and tablets with the help of a newly updated Linux kernel, yet some HTC devices which are aging may not be designed to run the upcoming OS version.

Settling for Android 4.3 and Android 4.2.2

Since Nexus devices will be getting Android 4.4 KitKat, some HTC phones may stay with the Android Jelly Bean version. HTC One is getting the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean soon in the United States, while earlier phones such One X and One S could settle for Android 4.2.2.

HTC releases official updates consisting of several bug fixes, major changes and enhancement throughout the system. Unfortunately, the company is usually late on pushing out official firmware upgrades to consumers given by the circumstances and age of their devices.

As for owners, custom ROMs running Android 4.4 KitKat in the future will likely be the last beacon of hope to get the latest features from Android OS in case HTC decided to terminate the life cycles of One X and One S.
