HTC U Ultra and U Play specs, Australian pricing and release details
Over a week ago, HTC made its latest handsets available for pre-order in the UK. Less than two weeks from now, Australians will also be able to get their hands on the HTC U Ultra and the HTC U Play, which were unveiled a month ago. Both handsets are now available for pre-order in Australia and are set to hit retail stores on March 8.
The 5.7-inch HTC U Ultra has a Super LCD5 capacitive touchscreen display with a 1,440 x 2,560 resolution and 513 ppi pixel density. A Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the variant with 64 GB internal storage while a Sapphire crystal glass safeguards the 128 GB model. The HTC U Ultra runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat and is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 quad-core chipset with an Adreno 530 GPU and 4 GB of RAM.
The HTC U Ultra has a 12 MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and features like optical image stabilisation (OIS), laser and phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash. It’s capable of recording 2160p videos at 30 FPS and 720p slow motion videos at 120 FPS while the 16 MP selfie shooter can record 1080p videos. The HTC U Ultra equips a 3,000 mAh non-removable lithium-ion cell that has Quick Charge 3.0 support and is good enough for 13 days of standby time or 26 hours of talk time.
The 5.2-inch HTC U Play also furnishes a Super LCD5 capacitive touchscreen display, but with a lower 1,080 x 1,920 resolution and slightly lesser 428 ppi pixel density. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow phone utilises an unspecified Corning Gorilla Glass as its shield and packs a Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 octa-core chipset with a Mali-T860MP2 GPU. Two variants of the HTC U Play are offered: one with 32 GB internal memory and 3 GB of RAM, and another with 64 GB storage and 4 GB of RAM.
The HTC U Play has a 16 MP f/2.0 primary camera that also comes with OIS, laser and phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash. The secondary snapper on its front is likewise a 16 MP camera. The U Play’s 2,500 mAh non-removable lithium-ion battery provides close to 18 days of standby time or 15 hours of phone calls.
The HTC U Ultra starts at $1,199 while HTC U Play goes for $799. Both smartphones come in four colours: ice white, brilliant black, sapphire blue and cosmetic pink. Both handsets also come with an external microSD slot that is expandable up to 2 TB. No 3.5 mm headphone jack is available on either device.
