HTC's upcoming Volantis has been tipped as the next Nexus 9 slate. More importantly, new details about the slate emerged hinting at a 64-bit Tegra K1 processor, 2560 x 1600 resolution and aluminum body. Can HTC and Google deliver a winner with the Volantis?

The latter part of the year will be marked with major releases from tech giants like Apple and Samsung. It appears that HTC and Google may be following their footsteps as new leaks suggest the Volantis device to be coming soon. The latest leak not only shows what the device will reportedly look like but it also describes its specifications.

According to notorious tipster @evleaks, the macro shot of the Volantis revealed earlier was a fake. GSM Arena also supports the claim that the previous leak was a fake. According to @evleaks, the Volantis slate will come with an 8.9-inch screen offering 2560 x 1600 pixels. The display will also feature a WQXGA technology. Other reported features include 5 or 8MP camera capable of full-HD recording, 64GB internal memory and 5GB DDR3 RAM.

Along with the leaks that surfaced, reports claim that the Volantis will run on a 64-bit Tegra K1 processor. The tipster did mention that the RAM details are not yet final. HTC may change the specifications prior to the release. Interestingly, the tablet will also come with a BoomSound feature standard with other flagship devices from HTC.

The Volantis will be released in the fourth quarter of this year slightly behind Apple's iPad Air 2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 reported releases. The 16GB edition of the device will start around $399 while the 32GB version will start around 32GB.

Based from another leaked image of the tablet, the design will combine the builds of the Nexus 7 and the LG Nexus 5. The next tablet from Google will also come with the new major Android platform, the Android L.

Google has not made any further announcements about the Nexus tablet.
