Huawei GX8 arrives in the US, priced at US$350
Huawei in January announced it would release its GX8 smartphone in the US market by the first quarter of 2016. Now, the Huawei GX8 is available for purchase from GetHuawei, the official online store of the company, Best Buy and Amazon.
GetHuawei, has listed the unlocked phone at US$350 (AU$497) - the same price listed on Best Buy and Amazon. The device will be available from select Best Buy physical stores as well.
Staring Feb. 9, the GX8 can also be bought from Newegg at a discounted price of US$299 (AU$425), saving customers US$50 (AU$71).
The Huawei GX8 is a version of the G8 or G7 Plus, depending on the region it sells in. Its 90 percent metal clad handset boasts a unibody design, crafted from aviation-grade aluminum.
The smartphone features a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, the display also sports a 2.5D cambered surface.
The GX8 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 paired with 2GB RAM, and offers 16GB of in-built storage which can be expanded via microSD card slot.
Other Huawei GX8 specs include a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera along with 5-megapixel front shooter. The phone weighs only 167g and the company managed to include a massive 3,000 mAh battery in a 7.5mm thin frame.
The smartphone will be available in several colour versions including Mystic Champagne, Space Grey and Horizon Gold. Huawei also included a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device. Running on Android 5.1 Lollipop, the smartphone is due to be upgraded to Marshmallow.
In related news, Huawei announced last week that it has sold more than 10 million Huawei P8 Lite handsets only nine months after its launch. The smartphone features a 5-inch HD IPS LCD display, HiSilicon Kirin 620 chipset, 2 GB of RAM, 16GB of in-built internal storage, 13MP main camera and a 2,200 mAh non-removable battery, reports Android Authority.
