Huawei's monster Kirin 950 processor in Mate 8 is 100% better than predecessor
Promises better performance and lower power use
Huawei is expected to release today its latest and powerful HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset that has set records for power and performance while slashing power consumption. The HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset makes use of TSMC’s 16nm FinFET processes.
Huawei might incorporate the new chip in its upcoming flagship, Huawei Mate 8, teased to be unveiled at an event on Nov. 26. It said the Kirin 950 offers 100 percent better performance than the Kirin 925 processor tht currently powers the Huawei Mate 7.
A recently leaked benchmark result of an NXT-AL10 smartphone -- purportedly the Huawei Mate 8 -- reveals the chipset’s scores. The results on GeekBench display a whopping 1,710 points on single-core performance and 6,245 points on multi-core performance, which is better than Samsung’s Exynos 7420.
The score proves to be pretty convincing considering that in the same benchmark test, Exynos 7,420 scored 1,486 points in the single-core and 4,970 points in the multi-core parameter. Huawei’s new chipset seems to be ready to take on the eagerly awaited high-profile Snapdragon 820 SoC from Qualcomm as far as the scores are considered, reports Phone Arena.
Huawei’s Kirin 950 will run an octa-core processor with four Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores paired with the Mali T-880 GPU. On the other hand, Samsung’s Eyxnos 7420 features four Cortex-A57 cores.
In the meantime, GSM Arena reveals Samsung is working on the successor of Exynos dubbed “Exynos M1 Mongoose.” The next Exynos chip will be powered by custom cores clocked at 2.3 GHz, which will be 45 percent more powerful than the current Exynos 7420.
With the speculated powerful home grown Kirin 950 processor, Force Touch technology and a massive 4,000+ battery on board, the Huawei Mate 8 might pose a serious threat to the high-end smartphones. The handset is also rumoured to come packed with 3GB or 4GB of RAM with 32 GB and 64 GB storage options.
