"Hunger Games, The Second Quarter Quell': Fan Pick for Young Haymitch Abernathy, James Gaisford [PHOTOS & VIDEO]
In the spirit of "The Hunger Games", here's a quick rundown on the actor who could play the young Haymitch Abernathy of "Mockingjay".
Fans all over social networking sites already know of this handsome fellow but for those who have only heard of him now, here's all things James Gaisford.
With the first film finally released and the sequel, "Catching Fire" in the works, fan suggestions have been in an all new high. The three main lead roles namely Finnick Odair, Annie Cresta and Johanna Mason are just a few note-worthy roles for Hollywood fans and actors alike.
However, in "Mockingjay", re-runs of the "Games" will be set for show which would only mean new faces for the Districts' old victors. This includes Katniss and Peeta's mentor, Haymitch Abernathy.
Thanks to Mainstay Productions, the young Haymitch Abernathy has been brought to life by the handsome and talented, James Gaisford. On July 18, 2011, Mainstay Productions had released a "Hunger Games" short film entitled, "The Second Quarter Quell".
The film was obviously made on a small scale budget but the actors have given great detail into interpreting the era of the games in "Catching Fire". The performance of the young, Haymitch Abernathy, played by James Gaisford, cannot be missed. So who is James Gaisford?
In an interview with "Down with the Capitol", fans get to know the handsome, pre-drunk mentor from District 12.
"I was in Chicago for a Hockey tournament and we were stuck in the airport for literally two days when John contacted me through facebook," said James about how he had been cast for the role.
"At the time I had no idea who he was haha. But then he sent me the link to the Katniss and Rue short and told me that he had been editing a film that a did last year ( The Letter Writer) and asked if I wanted to play Haymitch. So yeah! I am a believer of Facebook hahah." added the actor
While fans may think of James as the perfect Haymitch Abernathy, Mainstay Productions have also cast the 17-year old as Finnick Odair in another film short, "Finnick and Annie". According to James, however, if he had to choose any character he would have loved to play, it would be none other than "The Boy With the Bread", Peeta Mellark.
"I would love to portray Peeta. I think he's a brilliant character and that I can really relate to him. The scene I would choose to do would have to be the video clips that the Capitol send to the rebels in Mockingjay or when Peeta is finally brought back from the Capitol and is "hijacked" I think those are really powerful scenes, and it's terribly heart wrenching to watch this extremely good character in such a dark place, where he can't distinguish between reality and the lies that the Capitol polluted his mind with," explained James.
For fans of "The Hunger Games" who are still searching for the best actor to portray young, Haymitch Abernathy, then watch the video below. James Gaisford's performance is enough to make anyone beg for more film shorts from Mainstay Productions.
