"Vampire Diaries" on-screen couple Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev have reportedly reconciled in real life after caring for the puppies that Ian's dog, Nietzsche, gave birth to last Oct. Nina, 24, was present when Nietzsche delivered her babies and it seems that love for dogs brought "Nian" closer to each other.

"Nina fell in love with Nietzsche's puppies. She kept coming around to check on the dogs, and that's when she and Ian realized they still carried torches for each other," an unnamed source revealed to the American tabloid National Enquirer, according to the ShowbizSpy report.

The source further revealed: "After playing 'mom' to the little pups, Nina is rethinking her anti- marriage stance. Co-parenting the dogs with Ian helped Nina realize what a great dad he would be. She never really saw that nurturing side of him before."

Ian and Nina still decided to be good friends after ending their three-year relationship in May. The alleged reasons behind the break-up are their age difference and Ian's readiness to settle down and start a family but Nina does not want to head towards that kind of commitment yet.

It has been reported in Nov. that the "Vampire Diaries" stars are giving their relationship another try after "hooking up" again, according to E!Online. As for their CW TV series, Nina Dobrev has expressed her excitement over the nominations they received at the 2014 People's Choice Awards in January.

Ms Dobrev is looking forward to take home the award with Ian as "Favorite On-Screen Chemistry" for their "Vampire Diaries" characters Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert. The Bulgarian-Canadian actress has been nominated as well for the "Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress" award.

In the Fashion & Style report, Nina Dobrev retweeted a fan's shared photo of herself with a talking buble message that reads: "Vote Damon and Elena for favourite on screen chemistry!" Ms Dobrev is known for actively posting updates for her fans on social networking site Twitter and her tweets still includes the 34-year-old heartthrob actor to prove that they are still in good terms after the split.

Nina previously wrote a congratulatory tweet to Ian for their on-screen couple nomination at the 2014 People's Choice Awards as well as his nomination in the "Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actor" category.

Some fans are still hoping that Ian and Nina will get back together off-screen but a statement has not yet been released to confirm or deny the reports about Ian and Nina's reconciliation. The actor's rep remains tight-lipped since they do not give comments when it comes to their client's personal lives.
