"Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder posted a greeting to his millions of followers on Twitter but the message was a combination of the Halloween scare and the Christmas season. The 35-year-old actor shared an Instagram image of himself as Damon Salvatore with blood covering his face that made him look scary.

"Season's Greetings from Damon The Red-Nosed Reindeer Ripper... http://instagram.com/p/h7OpMIqJ10/," wrote Ian on his Twitter account @iansomerhalder with the link to his Instagram photo. It is not the first time for Ian to share scary selfie images as his vampire character with the bloody makeup effects from the CW TV series.

In a previous report, Mr Somerhalder managed to scare a bunch of people at a gas station because of the blood smeared on his face after leaving the "Vampire Diaries" set. The bloody photos that Ian has been sharing ignited speculations that his on-screen character Damon is losing control and going into a Ripper-fest.

The WetPaint report claims Ian Somerhalder has been filming with Aussie co-star Rick Cosnett who portrays Dr Wes Maxfield so Damon Salvatore could be returning to his dark ways or he has finally stopped the evil plan of Dr Maxfield with his secret weapon, the Augustine vampire Enzo (Michael Malarkey).

As for the Damon-Elena relationship in Season 5, executive producer Caroline Dries teased on how the breakup will affect the CW TV series. "The dynamic will certainly change. Moving forward, it will continue to hit some speed bumps here and there. I think the audience will be surprised by what we do. I think it's one of my favorite parts of the show," stated Ms Driesin the Classicalite report.

Ian Somerhalder has even teased in the past that the "Delena" couple will eventually head towards the split road. "Relationships are hard in real life, and they're exceptionally hard in Mystic Falls because when you have happiness in Mystic Falls, you have no drama. And if you have no drama, you have no TV show," shared the actor.

However, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev appear to be getting closer with each other off-screen that it has ignited rumours about the pair rekindling their romantic relationship after splitting last May. "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 will return with the 100th episode titled "500 Years of Solitude" on January 23, 2014 at 8/7C on the CW network.
