Intel Haswell Powered Microsoft Surface 2 Pro Comes October 22
Many remained concerned about the future of mainstream Windows devices and computing in general. Microsoft tried their luck initially with the Surface but failed miserably. The company had to slash millions of dollars to sell out inventory. Microsoft is at it again with two new tablets: Microsoft Surface 2 and Surface 2 Pro. Can they deliver?
Not many PC makers have taken the gamble to invest on Intel's Core i-series tablets. However, the line may prove to be more beneficial than given credit. The Microsoft Surface 2 Pro may prove to be an incredible slate-based laptop replacement.
The Surface Pro now comes with a faster Intel Core i5 processor instead of the slower Intel Atom. The device features a 10-inch screen complete with a 1920 x 1080 pixel-resolution-display. These are the type of features users often find on high-end ultrabooks. The more interesting component of the slate is the detachable keyboard cover.
It sets the benchmark for many of the slates around.
OS Update and New Hardware
The latest Surface Pro 2 came just in time for the launching of Windows 8.1. This can be considered a primary update for the Windows operating system. The good thing about the Surface Pro 2 is that is retains the positively reviewed components of the first generation. The difference lies in the new accessory options and new internal hardware.
The first generation Surface Pro had mediocre battery life. The latest Surface aims to change that.
Microsoft did so by changing the processor to Intel's newer fourth-generation Core i-series CPUs, more popular as Haswell. While it may seem a little improvement, sources like CNET claim that people can expect a great leap in terms of battery life.
Microsoft has also indicated that the company conducted internal optimizations offering positive effect on the battery life. The battery size is similar but the device should handle energy more efficiently.
Microsoft Surface 2
Microsoft has also introduced another product alongside Surface Pro 2, the Surface 2. It is a similar Widows RT version only it is an updated version. It has a slimmer body including higher resolution and updated Nvidia processor.
Surface Pro 2 sports a tablet-like "dark titanium" cover. Windows RT Surface 2, on other hand, now comes in lighter silver or magnesium.
