Intel Introduces 10-inch Android Tablet: Is it Nexus 10's Rival?
Intel not only wants to dominate the chip industry, it also started on manufacturing their line of tech products. Recently, the company released their 10-inch Android tablet intended to schools or educational purposes. Can an education-focused tablet be a game changer for the chip giant?
The educational Android tablet runs on an Intel Atom processor. Operating system code is Ice Cream Sandwich. As mentioned, the main goal of the device is to address the needs of students. Applications and features of the tablet aim to support students and make learning easier. Their primary goal is to develop and provide compelling content.
Features include front and rear cameras, multimedia content for learning, integrated microphones and speakers for more interactive activities. The tablet is equipped with an excellent range of educational applications. These include Intel Education Software, science exploration and data analysis application, e-Read and painting tools.
Intel's 10-inch tablet additionally features management software. This offers administrators and teachers a way to control how students use computers. School officials can also initiate protection protocols and management controls.
"Intel remains committed to helping teachers and students achieve better results through the development of complete solutions that span the hardware, software and digital content required for a 21st century learning experience," John Galvin, vice president of Intel's Sales and Marketing Group and general manager of Intel Education, explained.
"The tablet we are introducing is one additional step in a 10 year journey," he added.
The Intel Education tablet has a 10-inch display, Android 4.0 operating system, dual-core Intel® AtomTM processor Z2460 and up to 6.5 hours of battery life. The device weighs around 1.5lbs. Intel also developed a 7-inch education tablet. It runs on a single-core Intel® AtomTM processor Z2420. Operating system is Android 4.1 operating system and up to 8 hours of battery life. It weighs around .78 lbs. Intel included McAfee Mobile Security on both tablets.
Screens feature shock absorbers. This means the tablets are cushioned and more resistant to impact than usual. The tablets follow a design conducive for collaborative learning. Intel aims to empower students to accomplish their learning goals and become successful.
According to Intel, the company recognizes the need to develop platform encouraging quality education and critical thinking to cope with the changes in society. The increasingly complex environment require more assistive tools for absorbing and processing knowledge.
