Introducing Roxxxy the Sex Robot and the Possibility of Falling In Love with An AI Machine (VIDEO)
Humans having sex with robots and falling in love with them may happen within five to forty years, said British artificial intelligence (AI) expert David Levy back in 2007 in his book Love and Sex with Robots. Although it is impossible to think that this might only happen in Isaac Asimov's robot stories such as The Bicentennial Man, TC Systems and True Companion founder Douglas Hines has created a sex robot named Roxxxy.
Roxxxy, with a triple x, was first introduced in January 2010. She was dubbed as "the world's first sex robot" that is 5ft 7 in (1.70m) high and weighs 60 lbs (27kg). Roxxxy also has a variety of hair colours, has moveable limbs and a 'lifelike' skin. A male version of the sex robot named Rocky is also available.
According to BBC News, Mr Hines said that "the sex robot developed form his firm's line of healthcare robots" designed "to look after elderly or infirm patients."
Just imagine the income that the porn industry brings about each year, the sex robot would be a 'terrific service' to mankind, stated Levy.
Roxxxy is priced up to $9,000, and an advanced model that that can move freely will be released in the later part of 2013. Mr Hines argued that his aim in developing an artificial intelligence engine was to provide companionship.
"We are getting closer and closer. The gap between what is robotic and mechanical and what's human-like will minimise, so it's a very exciting time," he said.
However, psychologist and Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor Sherry Turkle reminds everyone not to fall for the likes of Roxxxy too quickly.
if you are trying to solve the problem of care and companionship with a robot, you are not trying to solve it with the people you need to solve it with - friends, family, community," she said.
