iOS 10 release date set on Sep. 13, 5 things to do before upgrading
The biggest update to Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 10, will be available for download next week, promising iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users with enhanced operating features ever.
Apple promises a “more personal, powerful and playful” software upgrade with the iOS 10, which improves features of iMessages, Apple Maps, Siri, and iPhoto, among others.
But before even downloading and installing the iOS 10 upgrade, Apple device owners are advised to:
1. Backup. Needless to say, backup your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch before installing iOS 10. Apple device users can either backup with iCloud or iTunes following these steps, according to Apple Support.
2. Check Apple device compatibility. Be sure your devices are compatible with the iOS 10 since not all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models are supported. Apple Support provides the list of devices compatible with the iOS 10.
3. Make time for the iOS 10 download. Downloading and installing the iOS 10 upgrade requires some time so make sure you have at least 30 minutes to dedicate for the software update and a full battery to prevent errors from happening.
4. Recall your Passcode. If you’re used to operating your iOS devices using TouchID, you need to recall your passcode as it will be required to update to iOS 10.
5. Have your Apple ID ready. Aside from the device passcode, your Apple ID and password will be required after updating to iOS 10 as it provides access to App Store, Apple Music and iCloud.
After making the iOS 10 upgrade, the first noticeable improvement is the “raise to wake” feature that wakes up your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch by merely picking it up instead of clicking the home or power button.
