A semi untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPod and iPad installed with Apple's iOS 5 has hit the web.

Top jailbreaks Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze allow users of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch to jailbreak devices running of Apple's iOS. However, they only supported tethered jailbreak. This means that you need to connect the iOS devices to the computer on every reboot. If you do not, your device will be stuck with the Apple logo.

The untethered jailbreak for the new iOS 5 is still on the works.

International Business Times has confirmed that iOS 5 untethered jailbreak currently available for a premium is a fake.

A new semi untethered jailbreak is now available in Cydia.

BigBoss released a new jailbreak package called SemiTether, which allows iDevice users to jailbreak their gadgets running in iOS 5 without the need to connect to a PC. But this new jailbreak package comes with some limitations.

The limitations of the SemiTether include:

1. Phone will reboot to the home screen.

2. Pre-installed apps will still be available except for important apps such as Mail and Safari.

3. You cannot use Cydia or other jailbreak app until boot tether.

4. It takes longer for the Phone to boot.

Despite the aforementioned drawbacks, it seems reasonable than to tether the jailbroken iOS 5 device on your computer. It is reported that BigBoss is working on the issues of SemiTether. However, it is still in beta phase. Thus, everyone is advised to proceed with caution in jailbreaking their devices.
