The reward for the hacker who will first offer the iOS 7 jailbreak is now up to almost $6000.

Hackers may be working very hard right now that Apple fans are now giving out a prize for those who can release an untethered jailbreak for the latest operating system from Apple. The crowdfunding website has raked in $5,908, according to Latin Post. The grand prize is still up for grabs.

Apple users have been waiting for the Evad3rs team to come out with the latest jailbreak since the release of iOS 7. However, there has been no update from the team lately. This prompted people to donate money to speed up the release whether it is from Evad3rs or from other developers.

However, the crowdfund is met with criticisms. Cydia Creator Jay Freeman, known as Saurik, was one of those who opposed the idea.

"The primary problem I have with this website is that it attempts to change the dynamics from one of 'people who do things that are fun to make devices more open' to one of 'people who do things to win cash prizes.' Meanwhile, it changes the dynamics in the minds of the people contributing: normally, people contribute after the fact to the teams that built something that they found of value; under the model of this website, people contribute ahead of time, and then hope that the thing that is released works for their specific device (or even 'runs on their computer,' etc.), and if it doesn't, they are kind of out of luck," he said.

Saurik also said that the Evad3rs team will probably get hold of the cash prize since they are already working on the iOS 7 jailbreak. However, they would have to follow the specific outline requested by the donors in order to get the crowdfund.

One of the main reasons why people are waiting for the iOS 7 jailbreak is due to the problems and issues experienced in the latest Apple software. Moreover, users are no longer allowed to downgrade on the previous versions of iOS once they upgrade to iOS 7.
